QUALIFICATIONS for all positions (see above for current openings)

  • Admissions Coordinators must possess a minimum of a Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Psychiatric Nursing or other related field. At least five years experience working with emotionally disturbed children, adolescents and their families. Demonstrated experience in administrative and organizational skills. Knowledge of local, sate and federal special education requirements, and familiarity with local school systems. Demonstrated knowledge of DSM IV-TR and IDEA 1997 and their specific applications to educating students with emotional disturbance and other applicable handicapping conditions and a current clinical license in the state of MD.
  • Administrative Assistant must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent. Additional related coursework, Associate's degree or equivalent is a plus. A minimum of three years successful experience in the areas of clerical, administrative and bookkeeping functions required. Must demonstrate excellent typing, written and oral communication and organizational skills. Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software. Must have knowledge of use and operation of standard office equipment.
  • Career Education Teachers must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field. Three years successful teaching experience with emotionally disturbed students preferred. Maryland High Schools require Maryland Professional Certification or Conditional Certification and will follow Maryland State Department of Education evaluation for Professional Certification in Special Education Grades 6 - Adult or Content Area.  Teachers must possess certification or meet requirements to submit a Request for MSDE Conditional Certification. Demonstrated knowledge of IDEA 1997 and its specific applications to educating students with emotional disturbance and other disabilities. Transition Special Education Certificate or completion of courses in Transition Special Education Program preferred.
  • Chemical Dependency Therapists must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Addictions Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Psychiatric Nursing or other related field; Master's Degree preferred. Must possess a current clinical license in the State of Maryland. Minimum of three years successful clinical experience in child and/or adolescent group and family counseling preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of DSM IV-TR and IDEA 1997 and their specific applications to educating students with emotional disturbance and other disabilities.
  • Clinical Intervention Program Coordinators must possess a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Psychiatric Nursing or other related field, a current clinical license in the State of Maryland, and training in Life Space Crisis Intervention or Non-violent Crisis Intervention. Three years successful clinical experience in child and/or adolescent group and family counseling preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of DSM IV-TR and IDEA 1997 and their specific applications to educating students with emotional disturbance and other disabilities.
  • Clinical Intervention Specialists must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Special Education or related field as well as training in Life Space Crisis Intervention or TACT 2 training.  Experience in special education, a psychiatric or other appropriately similar setting for children and adolescents is preferred.
  • Dedicated Aides (Student Aides) must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.  Additional related coursework, Bachelor's Degree or experience in special education, a psychiatric setting or other appropriately similar setting for children and adolescents is preferred.
  • Development Assistant - AA degree or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. A minimum of two years work experience, preferably in fundraising, sale/marketing or public relations. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Highly organized and extremely attentive to detail. Strong computer skills with a high degree of proficiency. Willingness to learn and utilize new applications. Proven ability to juggle multiple priorities and changing circumstances; to organize and prioritize work in accordance with supervisory input; and to meet deadlines.
  • Diagnostic Prescriptive Teachers must have a Master's Degree in Education including appropriate courses in testing and assessment. Intermediate School requires Maryland Professional Certification or Conditional Certification and will follow Maryland State Department of Education evaluation for Professional Certification in Special Education Grades 1-8. Maryland High Schools require Maryland Professional Certification or Conditional Certification and will follow Maryland State Department of Education evaluation in Special Education Grades 6-Adult or Content Area. A minimum of 3-5 years of teaching experience in a special education setting and/or experience specific to testing and assessment of students is also required. Demonstrated knowledge of IDEA 1997 and its specific applications to educating students with emotional disturbance and other disabilities.
  • Director of Development - Creative, self-motivated initiator with excellent organizational skills and ability to think outside the box. Strong management and interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communications capabilities, familiarity with web-based/social network communications, and knowledge of the principles of marketing and communications. Proven record of cultivating, soliciting, and sustaining various donor constituencies. Able to craft and implement both a long-term strategy and annual plan to increase funding from grants, foundations and individuals. Thrive under frequent deadlines and able to multitask and prioritize as needed. Work collaboratively with administrators, Board of Directors and constituents. Familiarity with independent and/or nonpublic schools. Bachelor’s degree and 5 + years of experience in a relevant area of marketing, communications, and/or institutional advancement in a school or non-profit fundraising operation.
  • IEP Coordinator - Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field. A minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in a special education environment. MSDE Certification. A minimum of three (3) years of experience writing IEP content and attending IEP meetings. Training on Maryland on-line IEP or DC IEP systems a plus. Excellent oral and written communications skills, computer proficiency and demonstrated capability to interface and maintain effective relationships with all departments and employees in a team-oriented environment.
  • Librarian - Librarians must possess a Bachelor's Degree. A Master's Degree in Library Science is preferred. Experience in a school or in a setting for students with emotional disabilities is preferred.
  • Program Assistants (Instructional Assistants) A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelors Degree is preferred (Education, Special Education or a related field). Program Assistants must possess formal training and experience in special education, a psychiatric or other appropriately similar setting for children and adolescents.
  • The Speech and Language Pathologist must possess a minimum of a Master's Degree in Speech Pathology and must possess a current license to practice speech and language therapy in Maryland.  Preference is given to those who possess a minimum of three years experience in providing diagnostic assessment and therapy to children and adolescents who manifest a variety of speech and language disorders and related symptoms. Experience in settings for students with emotional disturbance as well as mainstream education preferred.
  • Teachers must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field. Two years successful teaching experience with emotionally disturbed students preferred. Elementary/Middle School requires Maryland Professional Certification or Conditional Certification and will follow Maryland State Department of Education evaluation for Professional Certification in Special Education Grades 1-8. Maryland High Schools require Maryland Professional Certification or Conditional Certification and will follow Maryland State Department of Education evaluation for Professional Certification in Special Education Grades 6-Adult or Content Area.  Teachers must possess certification or meet requirements to submit a Request for MSDE Conditional Certification.  Demonstrated knowledge of IDEA 1997 and its specific applications to educating students with emotional disturbance and other disabilities.
